Wake Up With Me-My Weekend Morning Routine!

Let me begin this post by stating the obvious-I have no downtime to drink my coffee at home during the week. With a 6:40am bus time, most mornings are a mad dash to get the boys out of the door and crossing my fingers we didn’t forget something! But on the weekends, I like to take things nice and slow. Mike would tell you I take things too slow..I almost always sleep in later than him, and our boys have a built in alarm clock of 5am! I live in a house of early risers! Even so, on the weekends I love to move slower, brew my favorite coffee, and enjoy the calm. I think Saturday morning is one of my favorite moments of the week-there is that anticipation of the entire weekend ahead! Keep reading for my weekend morning routine and how I enjoy my mornings!

My Weekend Morning Routine

I almost always brew a half pot of Cameron’s Coffee on Saturday mornings. Even if I don’t drink it all in the morning, I love to use whatever is leftover for an iced coffee later on! Since I have time to savor my coffee out of a mug rather than an on the go thermos, I tend to go with a more classic option like Breakfast Blend or Woods&Water, and then add my favorite creamer. Most recently, I have been loving Nut Pods! You don’t need much, but it adds such a nice subtle creaminess to my coffee, with almost no calories.

Finding Your Spot

Once I have a fun mug and my cozy robe in place, I head to my spot. We all have a spot, don’t week? That spot that everyone knows to leave for you. The spot that leaves you feeling unsettled if it is occupied and you have to sit somewhere else. That favorite chair, or cozy nook that you always gravitate towards. We are such creatures of habit! In our house, my spot is on the right end of the couch, next to our rickety old end table that desperately needs to be replaced. It is probably no coincidence that I love this spot most because it has somewhere for me to set my drinks down ūüėČ I love to cozy up in the corner, place my coffee mug on a coaster, and curl up in my favorite blanket.

Nine times out of ten there is chaos and yelling around me, because #boymom! Even so, enjoying my coffee in my favorite spot always serves as a gentle reminder to take a minute and enjoy the present. I love to soak up the sunrise and those slow moments before the busy-ness of our weekend begins! Fun fact-our backyard has a direct view of the sunrise, so while we don’t get to watch the sun set very often, our morning views out of our two story windows are absolutely breathtaking!

Tips To Establishing a Relaxing Morning Routine

  • Brew a coffee that you look forward to. I know I am not the only one that heads to bed looking forward to my morning cup of coffee. If you are a coffee drinker like me, buy the fancy creamer, and splurge on a new flavor when the seasons change. If coffee isn’t your thing, find a tea that you love, or even just drink your morning glass of water out of a pretty tumbler!
  • Allow yourself time. I need to get better at this one. I am a chronic hitter of the snooze button, especially during the dark winter months! But, I always feel SO much better about my days when I give myself 15-30 minutes to relax and get myself in the right mindset when I wake up. There is no better way to prepare for the day ahead than by allowing yourself the ability to enjoy your morning routine.
  • Figure out what impacts your mood. Do you need exercise to feel right throughout the day? Schedule in that morning workout! Do you feel frazzled if you are thrown into¬†mom duty¬†with breakfast demands and lost socks the moment you wake up? Set the alarm and beat your kids to waking up to spend a few minutes in peace and quiet (again, I need to take my own advice!) Those first few days will be tough, but I promise, once you get in the routine those few quiet moments to yourself will be SO worth it!
  • Prepare the night before! Again, seeking my own advice with this one ūüėČ But your mornings will go SO much more smoothly if outfits are laid out, backpacks are prepped, and everything for work is ready to go. There is nothing worse than searching for your child’s favorite pair of socks or searching for your laptop when you are already rushed! Do yourself a favor and take ten minutes every night to be sure you are ready for the next day!

How do you most like to spend your mornings? Are you ready to go first thing, or are you like me, and need a little bit of time to get moving? I always LOVE hearing the routines of others!

Random Acts of Kindness-Pay It Forward Challenge

January is a dreary month. With little sunlight and bitter cold, it is so easy for the winter blues to hit. I have already been talking to Mike about things we can do in the upcoming weekends to keep ourselves excited and to avoid falling into a rut. Sometimes happiness comes easily (hello summertime), but this time of year, sometimes we need a little extra nudge. That is why I am so invite you all to participate in a Pay It Forward challenge!

One of the things I love about my partnership with Cameron’s Coffee is their focus on making every day brighter. Yes, even those dreary winter days I’m talking about! Optimism is weaved into everything they do-from their brightly colored packaging, tot he cute inspiring quotes on their mugs, to the causes they support! I obviously love their coffee too, but more importantly, working with them has been such an inspiration to always see the world as a ‘mug half full’ kind of place ūüôā

That is why I am so excited to invite you all to participate in a Pay It Forward Challenge! What is something you could do this month to brew up some kindness and brighten someone else’s day?

Pay It Forward Challenge

I think just about everyone has, at some point in the last few years, been touched by a pay it forward line at a coffee shop or drive thru. It is always a pleasant surprise, and it never gets old. Of course, the key idea of pay it forward is that you then take care of the car behind you. Or, if you are at the end of the line, you pay it forward by doing a kind action for someone else throughout the day. Something about knowing you have worked with a group of strangers to brighten the days of others just feels¬†good,¬†doesn’t it!?

Think Beyond The Drive Through

You don’t need to hit up a drive through line to pay it forward. While I love the movement, I also want to challenge you all to think bigger and get creative. What is a way that you can brighten someone else’s day? One of the best things about the pay it forward challenge is that it allows you to take a moment to truly think about how you can make someone’s day brighter. Do you have someone in your life who could use a little extra love and kindness this month?

This month, my newborn nephew started at our daycare. My boys were SO excited to have their new cousin join them, but I know that the start of any new child rocks the boat. Our daycare provider is the sweetest soul and cares so deeply for our children. She is like family to our boys, but it can be easy to take her care for granted. So, with the addition of a new child and a bunch of kiddos coming in off of Christmas break, I decided to treat her to a bag of coffee (and some chocolate). It was the perfect compliment to the mug I gave her at Christmas, aptly labeled Voted Most Likely To Need Coffee.

You guys, Lincoln LOVED this idea and I cannot tell you how excited he was to give a special gift to ‘his friend Kristi’. I have said it before and I’ll say it again, we are lucky to have such a wonderful daycare provider. It makes me so proud and it is such a humble reminder to see the joy my children feel from doing something kind for someone they care for! Kindness is¬†good for the soul.

Join The Challenge

I would like to say that I am always the one starting the pay it forward line. But, that is not always the case. I am always so delighted when it happens to ME. So why do I not take the initiate to surprise others with random acts of kindness more often? Thanks to Cameron’s, I am inspired to make the change right here, right now. Join me in a pay it forward challenge! Leave a comment on this post and let me know what your act of kindness was. And, more importantly, how did you feel afterwards!? I promise, in the act of brightening someone else’s day, you will brighten your own, too!

Weekly Roundup

Whew, what a week! A week after fall break is always an adjustment, and our little homebody family had an atypical week to boot! On Wednesday, we had a Halloween party at my office, where the boys got to wear their costumes, go on a scavenger hunt, and have pizza. They had SO much fun, and I love seeing them so excited to learn more about where I spend my days. Then, last night I went down to the Twin Cities to celebrate Evereve’s 15th birthday! Their entire website is 10% off through the weekend to celebrate. I had so much fun getting to FINALLY meet some other Minnesota bloggers. I live outside of the city, so I don’t get to as many events as I would like. But it is so much fun to meet these ladies in person!

To cap off the week, we have a halloween party for our neighborhood tonight! The boys love wearing their costumes, and we have a young neighborhood. I am looking forward to meeting some of the new families and indulging in an adult beverage ūüôā Before we head into the weekly, my weekly roundup is below!

The Cutest Photobomber

Did you catch the cute little photobomber on my Instagram the other day? I am NOT a cat person, but this little guy came walking up as I took some photos, and was so darn sweet. I had to run away to get inside because the second he left my legs, he immediately came right back to me. Mike, you sure you don’t want a cat? ūüôā My top was just restocked on Amazon, and my jeans are at an unheard of sale price of just $47 this week! These have been around for a few years and I have NEVER seen them marked so low. If you have ever had your eye on these jeans, this is the sale to snag them!

Tan and Black

I think my absolute favorite color combination this fall is tan and black. It is neutral, but still gives off a slightly edgy vibe! I shared this poncho styled four ways last month, and this look was by far the most popular. Bonus-my faux leather leggings are on sale this weekend only and ship free! I am lusting over this adorable cheetah faux leather leggings, too!

Styling A Cheetah Skirt In The Winter

This skirt is one of my favorite items from the summer, and I just wasn’t ready to put it away just because the temps have already dropped here in Minnesota. I think it is so easy to dismiss skirts when it gets cold, but they can still be styled and worn! I wore mine over a pair of black tights (I live and swear by these), a white sweater, and a moto jacket. It instantly feels edgy and fun, and I was so darn warm and cozy. I styled it for the summer in this post if you want to see how versatile it is, and love that I can use it year round!

New Fall and Holiday Coffee Flavors

I shared this post featuring the new holiday flavors and blends I have been brewing this season. But so many of you asked about this sweater that I figured it was worth a reshare! It is soft, cozy, and is the definition of fall in sweater form ūüôā The slits are high, so you will need a cami with this one. It also comes olive green and black!

I hope you all have the best weekend. Still in denial over the fact that Halloween is NEXT WEEK and my favorite month of the year is just about over. I am holding onto every last fall day that I can!

My Favorite Seasonal Coffee Blends for 2019

I am SO excited for today’s post, you guys! My coffee love is no secret, and while I am mourning the end of iced coffee season in here Minnesota, I am¬†so¬†excited for all of the yummy seasonal drinks! One of my favorite things to do during the fall is try out new flavors and blends. My favorite coffee blends for 2019 are some delicious finds from Cameron’s Coffee. Whether you like the traditional flavors or something a little bit unique, you can find just about any brew imaginable at Cameron’s!

*This post is written in collaboration with Cameron’s Coffee. All thoughts and opinions expressed are solely my own. Thank you for supporting the brands that support Stang&Co*

My Favorite Seasonal Coffee Flavors

It just wouldn’t be fall without some pumpkin spice, am I right!? Cameron’s hit the nail on the head with their Pumpkin Spice Blend. I like my coffee black, and I have found it is very easy for a pumpkin spice blend to get bitter, and borderline non-drinkable without a bunch of creamer. However, this blend is true to Cameron’s tagline of being always smooth and never bitter, and it is delicious on its own, or spruced up with a splash of fancy creamer!

If pumpkin spice isn’t your thing, I’d recommend Creme Brulee Latte Blend a try. While it is pumpkin season, I know it just doesn’t do it for a lot of people, which is why still being able to indulge in a festive treat like the Creme Brulee is so nice. This flavor is a light roast and is so easy to drink on its own. It is subtle and sweet, but not too overpowering in comparison to other flavored coffees. It is perfect to curl up with on a chilly fall morning, and in my opinion, would be an excellent flavor to add some adult spirits to, if that is your thing ūüėČ

I finally decorated our front porch this year with some mums and a new doormat, and the coffee lover in me was a little bit excited that the seasonal coffee packaging matched my decor ūüėČ

You can snag cute mugs and cups at Cameron’s Coffee, too! They have the cutest little sayings on them, and are perfectly oversized so you can brew a BIG cup of coffee. Especially on a Monday morning, one cup is never quite enough.

Holiday Flavors and Blends

We are already inching close to November, which means Christmas lights and holiday festivities will be here before we know it. Cameron’s also has some limited time offerings that including White Chocolate Peppermint and a Winter Blend. The white chocolate peppermint is¬†so good, and with a little bit of creamer tastes just like something you would get at a coffee shop. I like to brew it as a specialty drink on my Ninja Coffee Bar and mix it up with frothed milk-so yummy!¬†

A hidden hero that doesn’t get enough credit during the holiday season is a good winter blend. This is a non-flavored coffee, that still has a special festive flair, without overwhelming you with flavor. Cameron’s Winter Blend has hints of chocolate and subtle spices, with a smooth and creamy finish! My favorite thing about this winter blend is that it has the aromas of the holidays, but is still neutral enough to go with just about any creamer, sweetener, etc. that you would like.

Tell me, what coffee flavor do you look forward to during the fall and holiday season? I love them all, but white chocolate peppermint just might be my favorite. There is something instantly festive about the taste of peppermint in your coffee! Let me know your favorite, and if you ever have questions of any of Cameron’s flavors or blends, I am happy to be your taste tester!

Make At Home Honey Lavender Latte!

*This post is sponsored by Cameron’s Coffee. All thoughts and opinions expressed are solely my own. Thank you for supporting the brands that support Stang&Co!*

It is already August, and as much as we try to fight it, that means that fall is right around the corner! I have been drinking lots of black coffee and cold brews from Cameron’s Coffee this summer. But when the mornings start cooling off and the days get shorter, I always go back to my beloved lattes! One of my absolute favorite drinks this year has become a honey lavender latte. Lavender offers such a unique and wonderful flavor, and who doesn’t love honey!? I have found a local coffee shop that brews one that I love, but I am continuing to work on spending less on buying coffee out (see my no spend month here!) and figuring out how to brew fun drinks at home!

I decided to make my own honey lavender latte at home, and it is surprisingly easy and delicious! The honey lavender syrup is the most time consuming part of the process, but aside from having to wait for it to be done, it is so easy to make! I based it off of my original lavender simple syrup recipe that I shared in this post.

To make this recipe, I have been using the Kona blend from Cameron’s Coffee. It is a medium-dark roast and has a smooth, mellow flavor that’s delicious on its own, but also makes a perfect base for any additions. Keep reading for the recipe and how to make your own at home!

Honey Lavender Syrup

  • 1 cup honey
  • 2/3 cups water
  • 1/3 cup dried lavender

  1. Bring the water and honey to a simmer over medium to high heat. Stir often to ensure it blends evenly.
  2. Add lavender once water/honey mixture is simmering and continue for another 2-3 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and cover with glass lid. Let sit overnight.
  4. Strain over mesh sieve in the morning and store in the refrigerator.

Honey Lavender Latte

To make my lattes, I use a Ninja Coffee bar. If you do not have one, you can simply reduce the amount of water in your coffee pot to reflect how much you want to be able to pour in your cup!

  1. Pour one tablespoon (or more, depending on your preference) into a coffee mug.
  2. Add two large scoops of Cameron’s Coffee Kona Blend grounds to the Ninja Coffee Bar. Press the button to brew a specialty drink. Again, if you do not have a Ninja, add a larger amount of grounds and less water to have a result more like espresso.
  3. Fill a separate mug half full with your milk of choice. I typically use almond milk. Heat your milk so that it is HOT.
  4. Pour the milk over your syrup and espresso.
  5. Using the frother on the Ninja Coffee Bar, froth your drink for 30 seconds. Again, if you do not have this machine, you can purchase a cheap frother like this one!
  6. Drizzle honey over the top of your latte and garnish with dried lavender and enjoy!

If you prefer iced lattes, follow this same recipe but fill a glass with ice and do not heat the milk. Enjoy!

Cameron’s Coffee Cold Brew Kind of Summer

Summer is in full swing here in Minnesota! I have gotten such a kick out of responses to where I live by putting my ‘life out there’ on social media. I actually had people comment that they didn’t know it ever bloomed or got warm in Minnesota when I started posted ‘green’ pictures this spring. It was so funny! It is a fair assumption considering our winters never seem to end! In reality, we have some of the most BEAUTIFUL summers around, and we are in the midst of the hottest weeks of the year right now. And when you know the heat is something you only get for a short time, it becomes a cold brew kind of summer when it comes to your coffee. While I like my coffee hot most of the year, there is just something about an icy cold brew from Cameron’s Coffee. to get you going on the way to work in the morning on a steamy July day!

*This post is written in collaboration with Cameron’s Coffee. All thoughts and opinions expressed are solely my own. Thank you for supporting the brands that support Stang&Co!*

Cameron’s Coffee Cold Brew

Cameron’s Coffee has come out with a ton of new products lately. Their new cold brews are my absolute favorite! I have made my own cold brew from other blends in the past using regular grounds. However, I love that these are specially crafted to make the perfect cold brew. You want a coarser ground for cold brew, and something bold enough but also not too light (you will be drinking it over ice, after all!) These new blends take the guess work out of it and are perfectly made to steep overnight and serve over ice!

How To Brew

I love that there are easy to follow instructions on the side of the bag. It tells you exactly how to brew! I actually use my french press, which holds about four cups of water. So, I do 1/2 cup of cold brew grounds and 4 cups of water. I mix it well before steeping to ensure I really get the coffee incorporated into the water!
You let the cold brew steep in the fridge for 12-24 hours before drinking, so I like to make a batch when I get home from work in the afternoon so it is ready to go first thing in the morning!

I am a sucker for flavored coffees, so I absolutely LOVE the new Vanilla Hazelnut Cold Brew Blend. Of course, if flavored coffee isn’t your jam, Cameron’s Classic Cold Brew Blend will be right up your alley. Either way, you‚Äôll be getting a deliciously smooth summer pick-me-up.

I try to drink my coffee black most often. However, I always have some creamer on hand for the days I want a little something extra. I recently discovered and fell in LOVE with this oat milk creamer, and it is SO good. It is definitely worth a try, especially if you like trying out different dairy-free alternatives!

Tell me, how do you drink your coffee? Do you switch it up with the seasons? Do you drink it piping hot no matter how warm it is outside? Or are you one of my friends that drink it on ice no matter what?

Coffee At Home: My No Spend Coffee Month!

Well, I survived. Not without coffee, unless my children magically become sleep angels who do their own laundry, cutting coffee isn’t in the cards any time soon ;-). But at the beginning of the month, I told you¬†over on my Instagram¬†that I was¬†partnering with Cameron‚Äôs and¬†committing to a ‘no spend’ coffee month! What this meant was I would only be drinking coffee that I brewed at home (or from the break room at work if times got desperate). All month I have been sharing tips to¬†how I survived just¬†brewing at home. I wanted to give you all a summary of how I did, so keep reading for¬†all of¬†the details!

*This post is written in collaboration with¬†Cameron’s Coffee. All thoughts and opinions expressed are solely my own. Thank you for supporting the brands that support¬†Stang&Co!*

The Savings

First and foremost, I promised to give you all my savings. I was honestly scared to share this, because if my husband reads this and saw how much I was spending he may take away my credit cards ūüėČ Once I¬†sat¬†down¬†to do the math, I was¬†actually pleasantly¬†surprised. For the month of May,¬†I spent a total of $31¬†at coffee shops. I feared this number would be much worse,¬†but ever since I became a Cameron‚Äôs Coffee fan, they‚Äôve made it¬†really easy¬†and affordable to satisfy my coffee cravings with coffee brewed at home. However,¬†that amount each month still adds up! $31 every month throughout the whole year equals out to¬†$372 annually.¬†It always helps so much to do math to look at the greater picture. $31 a month is a new top or dinner out, but $372 a year!? That is a new piece of furniture, or a good chunk of money to put towards a vacation! Since I love¬†Cameron’s Coffee¬†and their¬†new summer blends¬†so much, it made it easy to commit to getting creative and making my coffee drinks at home.

Getting Creative

Brewing¬†all of¬†my coffee at home definitely forced me to get creative! Most of the time I drink black coffee, but what about those days where I just want a little something extra? I used my¬†Ninja Coffee Bar¬†to brew espresso from my favorite¬†Cameron’s Coffee blend, and added almond milk and caramel to make my own caramel macchiato! I also found that having a fun mug to drink out of makes¬†all of¬†the difference! Does anyone else just love the feeling of a coffee shop cup in their hand? I don’t know what it is that makes me love them so much, but a fun cup is everything! When I have something pretty at home I look forward to pouring my coffee into.¬†Check out¬†all of¬†the fun¬†inspiring quote mugs¬†that Cameron‚Äôs Coffee sells!

Surprise Benefits

One other benefit of brewing from home more often is a no brainer: I majorly saved on calories! I don’t splurge on the super sugary drinks TOO¬†often, but¬†brewing from home cut them out entirely. I know that making my own lattes is WAY healthier than the concoctions I usually treat myself to! One new item that I added this month at the suggestion of multiple other coffee addicts was¬†this oat milk creamer. You guys, it is SO good and creamy! My favorite combination was adding it to Cameron’s 100% Colombian blend. A new creamer can make all the difference in your morning coffee being exciting, but a healthy creamer in moderation is still WAY better than a sugary drink purchased at a coffee shop!

Did I Cheat?

I wanted to be sure to tell you if I truly did NO spending out on coffee this month. The answer is NO. Thanks to a gift card I was able to get a drink for¬†free¬†and didn’t pay out of pocket. And, a local gas station has $1 any size coffees on Mondays! It is such a nice pick me up when I am starting off the week to treat myself and a super low price. And after a crazy day at work with no lunch break, I caved and got a coffee from the bistro. So, compared to $31 last month, I spent a¬†grand total of $6¬†this month! I really enjoyed the fact that I found ways to still treat myself, but without spending money, and limiting myself to the days where it was a deal!

Realistically, should I expect myself to never buy coffee out EVER. No way! But in my opinion it is a treat, not a necessity! Like I said, Cameron’s is so affordable and makes drinking my coffee at home something I even look forward to! Moving forward, I want to stick to getting coffee on Friday as an end of the week treat. Or, on special outings like girls day or when we are out of town. I was able to use this month to totally reset my habits. It feels great to longer feel the impulsive need to stop at a coffee shop every single morning! Tell me; have you ever done a no spend coffee month? I would love to hear tips and tricks for sticking to it!
