*This post is written in collaboration with Diono. I received these car seats in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are solely my own. As always, thank you for supporting the brands that support Stang&Co!*
I am going to share a fun fact that many of you likely do not know about me. My first job out of college, I focused on injury prevention! One of my job duties was to conduct car seat checks at monthly clinics in town. I even went to a week long training out of town on the topic. To this day, I can tell you how to install any type of car seat, the type of seatbelt in your vehicle, and what option is the safest. Of all of the things I have been trained for on the job, being a car seat safety technician is my favorite. After four years in the parenting game, my inner car seat expert was SO excited to try the Diono Radian 3RXT for the boys!
One of the things that I learned from my training was that almost everyone I knew installed incorrectly. I even installed our car seat base myself after giving birth to Jackson. I just didn’t trust anyone else to do the job! Looking back, it was not that big of a deal. I find a car seat base to be the easiest type of seat to install. Once you get into convertible seats, it can be much more complicated to ensure they are installed properly!
Did you know car seat clinics are offered around the country? If you have ever been curious if you are installing yours correctly, I absolutely suggest attending a (free!) car seat clinic! They provide education, and sign off on your install before you drive away! There is such peace of mind in knowing that your baby is safe when you put them in your vehicle!

Of course, in teaching at these clinics I also saw a wide variety of car seats. Let me preface this by saying one thing-ANY car seat on the market is safe. Any car seat sold by a retailer is perfectly safe for your baby. I think it is so important for parents to know that, no matter what your budget is, everyone can afford a car seat that is optimally safe for their little one!
While all car seats are safe, the more basic car seats do tend to be less convenient to handle and install, and may not provide the extra comfort features your child needs. And even when we are long past the days of the infant carrier, I was so excited to be able to give the Diono Radian 3RXT a try this summer for all of its amazing features! The Diono Radian 3RXT is a lifetime car seat. It can accommodate infants rear facing up through 45 pounds. It also transitions to a forward facing car seat, and eventually a booster seat.
Since Lincoln is now over the age of two, we have switched him to forward facing. Recommendations are to keep children rear facing until at least age two. He is a very BIG boy, so rear facing got to be confining for him earlier. He is WELL within the size range for forward facing, so we felt comfortable making the switch.
The Carseat That Fits Three Across
If you have more than one child, you know that things can get crammed QUICKLY. Two big convertible car seats had me feeling like I couldn’t even use the middle seat. The Diono Radian 3RXT is one of the most narrow car seats on the market, at only 17 inches across. It is one of the few car seats that can fit three across in most vehicles! We don’t have plans for a baby number three. But, I love knowing that we could fit another car seat in if needed!
The car seats also has strap pads that provide extra comfort and cushion. I have always hated when I felt like the straps dig in around little necks and shoulders, but the Diono Radian 3RXT is great at reducing any discomfort. Safety is the top priority, but it makes me so happy to know my boys are comfortable, too!
What are features you look for when buying a car seat? I would love to know who has attended a car seat clinic. Leave a comment below and let me know your thoughts!
